I’ve just finished reading Code Red by Lisa Lister – the title of this is a quote from the book.
It’s part of an ongoing journey that began in 2012 with an abnormal smear result. Until that point, I’d pretty much ignored my cycle and been on the pill on and off for 13 years. To me then, it was something to be medicated and complained about.
I had to have a minor operation to have the abnormal pre-cancerous cells removed. After that, I stopped taking the pill and started learning more to honour my cycle.
Through doing this, gradually the PMT and cramps reduced. When I did try going back on the pill a few years later, I hated it- I didn’t feel like me when on it.
This is not to put down anyone who is on the pill but to share my own experiences and what works for me now.
Even more so since having my son Leo I’ve found a huge respect and meaning in tracking and honouring my cycle.
Each month it gives us a chance to experience a version of the four seasons – Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter.
It teaches us what is missing in our lives- if we can’t honour each part of the cycle. There is a time for doing, but just as importantly, a time for resting.
If you don’t have a cycle, you can still connect to this wisdom via the Moon- each month it also moves through the same seasons. The spring and summer is during the waxing phase culminating in the full moon. The autumn and winter during the waning phase, the dark and new moon being the depth of winter.
You can apply this practically to work by ensuring you have 4 phases in your month, 4 phases to each project. We tend to always focus on the external ‘doing’ but the internal reflecting, feeling and creating ideas is just as important.
I created the Lunar living guide and Trello – access on the freebie page if you’d like to learn more about this cyclical approach.
