We quit our jobs in 2012 to go and live in Australia. (Me and the ten-boyfriend, now husband, Nick)
The trip was life-changing in many ways.
It really could have all gone wrong- we needed to find jobs when we arrived, we didn’t have anything lined up, we left behind safe jobs with benefits and pension packages.
Have you ever felt ‘called’ to a country- like you had a past life there or some deep ancestral connection to the land? That is how I felt about Australia, and even more so since visiting.
Funnily enough, I also seem to attract clients who have some sort of Australian link- whether through living there, being Australian or married to an Aussie! One of my amazing clients also works with Australian Bush Flower Essences- a really incredible way to balance and heal ourselves with natural remedies from the vibration of each flower, grown in the Australian sun!
I quit my well-paying corporate day job with a pension and benefits to leave and go there, and haven’t had a permanent job since. In some ways, of course I miss the consistent income and it took a lot less mental real estate in my head. Whereas now I’m constantly thinking about my business, but that is because it’s so important to me. And doing purpose-driven work is what lights me up!
But even if it had all gone wrong, I know I had to do something like this or I wouldn’t have been able to ‘settle down’ long enough to start a family!
I’m sure we’ll do something like this again one day at some point (maybe not for a while). We lived there for 2 years and I think it was then that I truly realised how important mindset was. You can move across the world, but you always take your mindset with you!
Nine years later and my life looks a lot different now than had we not made that decision. Like a sliding doors moment. It wasn’t all rainbows and pretty views- it was really hard being away from family and we went through some tough times for a few months- but ultimately came out stronger with a new perspective on our relationship with each other, our home and how we wanted to live going forwards.
Something about Australia is still calling me back… when I don’t know, but someday!
As you may know, I also love geeking out on the Astrology that I can see in our charts that affects the way we pursue experiences in life. There is definitely much more in mine and I can say that I’m definitely the initiator of travel plans in our relationship and the one always talking about where we are going to go next! Nick’s is much more travel for the experience as long as that experience ‘lines up’ to his greater life plan whereas I just love to travel and see new places.

So there is definitely more in my chart, and his reasons for travelling are much more rational than me (also he is ESTJ and I am INFP on Myers-Briggs scale!)
Have you lived abroad? Or even moved permanently? Have you considered how your natal astrology affects your desire to travel?
