So what is this ‘shift’?
Parents and especially mothers have been hit hard having to pick up the slack during the lockdowns with childcare and having to step back from work and career to focus on domestic tasks. The effect was almost immediate and as this research shows, even worse for women in senior management roles:
If you are, you are part of a trend with more women feeling the pressure more than ever. We are getting to breaking point now, so you may well feel like you need to disconnect and take a break for your own mental health. Whilst the peak of the Pandemic may be over, we are all still feeling its effects and the ongoing higher levels of anxiety and grief for the ‘normality’ we feel we’ve lost.
We are on the precipice of huge changes. How, where and when we work needs to be more flexible. If companies don’t adapt, many of these highly skilled and experience women are going to make a way forward which may well mean starting their own businesses and consultancies.
If you are seeking to move on from your corporate job and want more fulfilment and freedom, perhaps starting a side hustle or new startup business could be on the cards? I coach Female Founders and Pre-Founders to help them decide if this is the right move (it’s not an easy step to go it alone and doesn’t suit everyone!)
