“This new moon takes us into to heart/womb of something, old ancestral lines, a seeping into the earth to feel her rhythm, perceived concepts of home, family and belonging, healing the roots; being human. It will take some time to surface. Something is trying to be born, I have little words and want to honour the importance of that. It is a dark moon after all.”
-Quote from Magic of i
A New Moon brings a new beginning, the dark empty sky is filled with potential. One cycle has ended and after integrating all the wisdom of the balsamic, barely visible Moon, we are ready for her light to slowly return. The New Moon is essentially a conjunction between the Sun and Moon, the Sun is shining his light on the back of the moon and although we cannot see the reflected light this coming together of active and receptive energy, the outer and the inner self, is a potent moment for setting intentions and beginning the cycle, strong and integrated.
This New Moon is in Cancer, our cardinal, water sign. She is the mother of the zodiac, bringing in the summer solstice. She marks a point in the year when everything is blooming, the sweet fragrance of summer. She brings warmth and beauty; she longs to nurture and protect those close to her and as a cardinal water sign, she is the beginning of water. Like a freshwater spring that people build a town around or a safe shallow harbour keeping her fishing boats safe. She gathers a small group and spends her time nourishing them. We are approaching the time of year when we will be turning our attention to our family, spending school holidays with our children, quietening our work schedule to take holidays with those we love. Cancer reminds us to focus on the people we value, our inner circle. We may think of a crab with a hard shell and a soft interior, Cancer is very much like this, highly sensitive and empathic she needs to protect herself, so she is only open with those she really trusts. Wherever Cancer falls in your chart is where you need to be nurtured and with this New Moon nurturing ourselves is the theme.
Cancer is ruled by the Moon, so this New Moon is ruling herself in her home sign. The Moon represents our emotions and the ways in which we seek security and comfort. She is the fastest of our celestial bodies, shifting and changing throughout the month, moving across the sky, changing shape and size from our perspective. She represents our flowing changing cycles, the ebbs and flows of our feelings and when we look at her aspects they change just as fast as she passes every other planet each month. This New Moon will be shaped by her journey, the final aspect she makes before she reaches the Sun is a sextile to Uranus in Taurus. Maybe as the last cycle finishes you need to think about making a change? Do you need to spend more time in your garden? Or to look at your finances? These loose ends may need tying up before we begin the new cycle. Her first aspect will be to Neptune in Pisces, activating that intuitive, mystical water energy. This first aspect sets the scene for the upcoming cycle, and it is a harmonious one. Neptune rules mirrors and cinema, maybe it is time to step in front of a camera? Maybe you need to lean into your psychic gifting? This easy flow between water signs can feel emotional but it can be a deeply healing and revealing time. Meanwhile in Leo we have Mars and Venus coming to a conjunction, love is in the air. This feels like the energy of an archetypal summer romance, it is sure to be a strong theme this summer!
This energy will be felt most strongly by people with planets in Capricorn, Cancer, Aries, and Libra.
Cancer is a water sign, so this is a great time to be near water. A salt bath is a good way to connect with this energy. Just add a cup of Epsom salts to your bath, you could also add some water safe crystals and herbs. Light some candles and set an intention to receive the deep nurturing energy that Cancer brings and set your intentions is this intuitive relaxed space.
