If you are a business owner, do you sometimes question your decision and wonder about having a ‘safe’ job?
If you are currently in a 9-5, do you wonder if you have ‘what it takes’ to start your own business?
I invite you to consider that the answer to both of these comes down to:
Fundamentally, we have been conditioned in our society to define success very closely to the income we bring in…
… But this is often where we get stuck- we can be bringing money in and not be happy. Is that really ‘success’?
Tony Robbins says:
The quality of your life is the quality of your habitual emotions – your “emotional home.”
😎 Having time off during the week
👩👩👧 Being able to visit and spend time with family
☕️ Being able to meet friends for coffee when you fancy it
🔖 Continual growth and self-development- becoming the best version of yourself
💪🏽 Going to the gym during the quiet hours when everyone else is working
Then if you are measuring success based only on income, you are missing the point- you are working towards something that actually won’t feel like a win when you get there (I did this last year when I hit the goal of matching my corporate salary with my business income).
Going back to the first points- if you are a business owner, you may underestimate the quality of life you have created for yourself and your family. Your “emotional home” is closely connected to how you spend your working hours!
If you are in a day job, you may be focusing so much on income that you have a one-dimensional view of success and are scared to ‘take the leap’ into work that truly lights you up because of this.
I am sharing this as I recognise the incredible changes I’ve made in my day to day life since quitting the corporate world in 2019, and how lucky I am to enjoy such flexibility, freedom, and a sense of impact.
I am not saying that it’s a choice to be paid well OR have good income, but that it helps to reframe your mindset around what ‘success’ truly means to you because sometimes we get tunnel vision and lose track on how we actually want to spend our lives.
What do you TRULY desire… not what you think you ‘should’ do or what others tell you or what seems logical? (Dig deep)
Do you actually know what you truly want and desire?
Do any limiting beliefs come up around:
And of course our ego mind always goes back to the HOW… but HOW!! (This is just a way of stopping us taking action – our ego tries to keep us safe!)
It comes down to:
What if instead of thinking ‘Who am I’? You could reframe it to think
We are not supposed to stay small. It is just our ego minds that are telling us this (highly recommend reading ‘The Untethered Soul’ for more on understanding how to be soul led and not ego led!
We are supposed to expand- it is the natural state of the universe- constantly expanding energy.
We are designed just perfectly and there is nothing ‘wrong’ with us (it is just ‘bro’ marketing and the patriarchy that would have us think there is).
So if you’re reading this, take it as a sign from the universe that you are supposed to have everything you dream of…
Write down a list of all your desires- let it all come out. Then know that because you feel it, because you are drawn to it, because you are at this point in your life right now, wherever that is, it gets to be yours.
