Why I Love Dark Moon Lilith…

Dark Moon Lilith in Astrology: Meaning and Mythology

In astrology, Dark Moon Lilith represents an enigmatic and deeply transformative energy, offering insight into our rawest, most instinctual selves.

Named after the dark goddess Lilith of mythological fame, this point in the astrological chart is often associated with themes of independence, rebellion, shadow work, and repressed desires. Its placement highlights where we may feel marginalised or suppressed and where we can access deep empowerment by reclaiming our truth.

Mythological Origins of Lilith

The mythological story of Lilith is thousands of year old. In one of her most well-known tales, Lilith appears as Adam’s first wife in the Garden of Eden. According to legend, she was created from the same soil as Adam, making her his equal. This equality caused tension between the two, particularly when Lilith refused to submit to Adam’s dominance. Asserting her independence, she left the Garden of Eden, flying away and choosing exile over subservience. The story goes that she lived in a cave and had ‘monster’ offspring…

Lilith’s defiance led her to be demonised in later texts. In our patriarchal society, she was described as a dangerous seductress, a child-snatcher, and a figure who symbolised wild, untamed femininity.

Over time, however, Lilith came to be reinterpreted as a symbol of feminist power, autonomy, and liberation, embodying the refusal to be constrained by societal or patriarchal norms.

What is Dark Moon Lilith in Astrology?

Astrologically, Dark Moon Lilith isn’t a physical celestial body but a mathematical point in the Moon’s orbit, specifically the apogee, or the farthest point of the Moon from Earth. This placement holds symbolic resonance, representing the void or the unexpressed feminine power within the chart. It is distinct from the asteroid Lilith and the Black Moon Lilith, both of which carry their own interpretations in astrology. Dark Moon Lilith delves into the themes of primal instincts and the shadow self, often surfacing where suppressed emotions and taboo desires reside.

Why I love Dark Moon Lilith

Lilith is at 29 degrees Capricorn for me and in my 2nd house and Pluto has been transiting this point for months! It’s felt like a real activation of power. Leaving behind my old ‘maiden’ self and stepping fully into being a powerful mother figure, reassessing what I value. For me, she represents a ‘hidden key’ to our chart in Astrology and reminds us who we truly are.
